In the name of humanity, stop the Israeli slaughter of innocents in Gaza
Press Release
Gaza Ministry of Health, Palestine
August 04, 2014
The Ministry of Health Gaza condemns in the strongest possible terms the Israeli breaking of the humanitarian ceasefire in a murderous attack on the Al-Bakri family home in Al-Shaati refugee camp in west Gaza City, killing an eight-year-old child and injuring 30 other people, mostly women and children.
This attack on a home in one of the most densely populated residential areas on earth only minutes after the commencement of a humanitarian ceasefire can only be seen as a calculated and deliberate attack on civilians. (more…)

Press Release
Gaza Ministry of Health, Palestine
August 03, 2014
The Ministry of Health Gaza is reeling from the reports coming out of Rafah, where scores have been killed and injured today, including 10 dead and over 30 injured in yet another attack on an UNRWA school, this time the Anas Ibn Malik Prepatory School sheltering thousands of forcibly displaced persons.
A group of women, children and older people were sitting against the wall at the entrance to the school seeking shade from the sun when they were struck.
This atrocity follows dawn attacks in Rafah on the Ghoul and Abu Jazzar family homes which left 18 dead and dozens injured, and brings the number killed in Gaza today to at least 118. (more…)

Israeli attack on crowded market during ceasefire is ‘barbarity personified’ says MOH Gaza
Press Release

Israeli attack on crowded market during ceasefire is ‘barbarity personified’
Ministry of Health Gaza is outraged at the Israeli massacre perpetrated during the so-called humanitarian ceasefire, when F-16s fired missiles into the crowded Shujeiyah market as hundreds took advantage of the lull to buy food and supplies.
At least 17 people have been killed and 200 injured.
“This atrocity is barbarity personified,” said Director General, Ministry of Health Dr Medhat Abbas.
Not satisfied with exterminating entire families in their own homes, not satisfied with killing people praying in mosques, not satisfied with killing patients, staff and visitors in hospitals, not satisfied with killing ambulance drivers as they retrieve the dead and injured, not satisfied with killing women and children sheltering in UNRWA schools, the Israeli death machine now blatantly attacks a crowded public market DURING a humanitarian ceasefire, in an unrivalled cruel and cynical exercise of savagery and barbarism. Israeli rocket kills 3 Gazans, bringing 24-hour death toll to 6
An Israeli drone fired a rocket at a group of Palestinians near Sofa crossing, on Tuesday morning. Three people – Abdulshafi Mo’ammar, 33, Ismael Abu Jouda, 23, and Shaher Abu Shanab, 24 – were killed.
This brings the total of Palestinians killed by Israel in the last 24 hours in the West Bank and Gaza to six.
Palestinian Raed Zuaiter, 38, a judge at the Amman Court of First Instance, was killed at the Jordan River crossing point on Monday morning while on his way to visit family in the West Bank.
Saji Darwish, 18, from Beitin village was killed near Ramallah by Israeli forces, and Fidaa Muhye Addin Majadlah died following a car chase by Israeli police. Palestinian security sources told AFP that Israeli troops fired at the car, but that it was not clear whether Majadlah was killed by the gunfire or the crash.
Also on Tuesday morning dozens of Israeli military vehicles and bulldozers carried out an incursion east of Khuza’a village, in the southern Gaza Strip.
Six bulldozers entered into the area and carried out leveling operations east of al-Rowaida gate, amid gunfire.
Israeli gunboats also opened fire at Palestinian fishing boats off the Gaza coast. No injuries or damage were reported.
PALESTINIAN PRISONERS DAY: AL-ISSAWI NEXT TO DIE?
PRESS RELEASE
MAD – Media Activists for Detainees
Will Samer Al-Issawi die in an Israeli jail, just like Maysara AbuHamdiya? Or will the international community move today, the International Day for Palestinian Prisoners, to save his life?
GAZA CITY — These are the questions today preying on the minds of 32 sick Palestinians in Israeli jails. Along with, “Which of us will be next?”
Maysara AbuHamdiya, a prisoner for over ten years, died this month following lack of timely medical treatment for throat cancer. Samer Al-Issawi faces imminent heart failure after more than 270 days hunger striking in protest against Israel’s policy of administration detention, and inhumane conditions in Israeli jails.
“My health has deteriorated greatly but I will continue my hunger strike until victory or martyrdom. This is my last remaining stone to throw…” Al-Issawi said in his last letter from prison.
Palestinian Ministry of Detainees and Ex-Detainees reports that as at 31 March 2013 there were 1,200 sick Palestinians prisoners inside Israeli jails, 14 of whom have cancer and 18 of whom are confined in the Ramle Prison Clinic.
Israel shows no signs of introducing minimum standards of medical care anytime soon. In a report titled The Palestinian Prisoners Hunger Strikes of 2012 Physicians For Human Rights-Israel made recommendations regarding the urgent need to transfer prison medical services from the Israeli Prison Service (IPS) to the Ministry of Health, due to the dilemmas of dual loyalty of IPS medical staff and the primacy given to political and security considerations at the expense of prisoners’ health and well-being. It is not to be.
In response to their recommendations, “…the Ministry maintained that supervision and control over the medical services of prisoners would remain under the auspices of the IPS, thereby thwarting our request…” Physicians For Human Rights-Israel stated on their website this week.
Thus despite the best efforts of even local Israeli human rights groups, the dire situation for ailing Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails remains unchanged.
Will Al-Issawi be the 204th Palestinian to die in Israeli custody since 1967? Or will the International Day for Palestinians Prisoners spur the international community into snatching him from the jaws of death?

About MAD
Who is MAD? We are! We are Media Activists for Detainees, a collective of young Gazans who are MAD about the use of administrative detention by Israeli authorities to imprison Palestinians without charge. We are MAD about the torture to which our brothers and sisters are subjected during interrogation. We are MAD about the conditions under which they are held in Israeli jails, from lack of timely and adequate medical treatment, to years of solitary confinement, rotten food, strip searches of both detainees and visiting family members, violent midnight cell-raids, random beatings, and the with-holding of family visits.
We are MAD, and we are dangerous – but only to those who with-hold basic human rights from detainees in Israeli jails – and only by exposing their abuses to the world.
